While Williamsburg, Virginia locals realize it is a total tourist thing to do, we still can’t help ourselves from visiting The Peanut Shop of Williamsburg when we find ourselves in Merchant’s Square. The small shop specializes in offering Virginia peanuts — one of only four types of U.S.-grown peanuts — which are grown primarily in Virginia and the Carolinas. Virginia peanuts represent just 15% of total U.S. peanut production.

Strolling through the shop you find most every possible flavor and type of peanuts. Yes, they have samples of most including the scrupulous dark chocolate covered. The Peanut Shop of Williamsburg only sources the highest market grade — Super Extra Large — a grade that comprises less than 3% of all Virginia peanuts grown.

The summer of 2023 marks the 50th anniversary for The Peanut Shop so they must be doing something right. Make sure you don’t miss this gem on your next visit.
