Local award-winning recording artist, songwriter, vocalist, harmonica player, and U.S. Coast Guard veteran Bobby Blackhat, will be appearing on Jan. 12 at Cogan’s with his band Tom Euler (guitar), Brian Eubanks (bass), Michael Behlmar (drums), and Lucy Kilpatrick (keyboards).
Bobby has opened for blues legends B.B King, Taj Mahal, and Steady Rollin Bob Margolin, and has performed with Kenny Neal, Lil Ray Neal, Jackie Scott, Bill Deal and the Rhondels, Jason Ricci, Eddie Shaw, Daryl Davis, Ruthie Foster, Sherman Robertson, Slam Allen, Tas Cru, and Memphis Gold.
In 2017, he won the USAA/We Are The Mighty Mission:Music nationwide competition, and has won two Blewzzy Awards for “Song of the Year” (I Hear Mama’s Voice, 2012 and Please Mr. BlackHat, 2015). He was also awarded two 2016 VEER Music Awards for “Best Blues” and “Song of the Year” (HRBT Blues).
His CD “Put On Your Red Shoes” is currently #22 on the Roots Music Report and #11 on the Contemporary Blues Chart. “Overdose Of The Blues” is #9 on the Top 50 Blues Song Chart and # 4 on the Top 50 Contemporary Blues Song Chart.
His song, “Run, Baby, Run” was written in response to the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland Florida. It was nominated for a Josie Music Award for “Song of the Year” in the R&B/Soul category.
