Williamsburg, you have a new area code. The State Corporation Commission announced that the North American Numbering Plan Administrator (NANPA) has assigned a new area code to the Hampton Roads region including Williamsburg, Virginia
The new 948 area code will relieve the upcoming exhaustion of 757 phone numbers in Virginia’s Hampton Roads area
The 757 area code region makes up the majority of the tidewater area, including Williamsburg, Virginia Beach, Suffolk and even parts of Virginia’s eastern shore. The 757 area code was created in 1996, splitting off from the 804 area code which was nearing exhaustion at that time. The most current estimates predicted the available numbers in the 757 region would run out in the fourth quarter of 2021.
