The movie Harriet was filmed in many directions, all within about an hour and a half of Richmond. During the fall of 2018, Berkeley Plantation became the movie set of “Harriet”, the story of iconic freedom fighter Harriet Tubman. Slave quarters were constructed and used for scenes throughout the movie. Following the filming, the reconstructed slave quarters were relocated to Berkeley’s historic area and are now open to the public. The new exhibit tells the story of the life of enslaved workers that lived at Berkeley.
Berkeley’s 1726 Georgian mansion is the birthplace of Benjamin Harrison V, signer of the Declaration of Independence and three times governor of Virginia.
